Relief

Like my sculptures, my relief paintings are built up in layers. I love making patterns using my language of shapes that is constantly evolving. The top layer, usually wood, has negative space cut out, then once painted, is mounted to a lower layer, usually painted plexiglass. The back side of the plexi is often painted with a fluorescent color, which makes the piece radiate when hung on the wall. Some are hand cut, some laser cut. Laser cutting offers the ability to have the work done in series, so I can layer pattern on pattern and hang in groupings. For me, each piece tells a story. And, as always, I strive to create positive and very lively images.
